IF the title race is over, then Cesar Azpilicueta hasn’t read the memo.

ORIOL ROMEU maintains the Southampton squad are not panicking – despite seeing their winless run continue.

Mauricio Pellegrino’s side have lost three of their last five, drawing the other two. Defeat at Chelsea on Saturday meant they have still won just one of the last eight and two of their last 13.

But Romeu (left), signed from the Blues in 2015, insisted: “The belief will always be there.

“The thing is, we have played well, and didn’t get points. Sometimes, that takes some confidence out of the team. But, hopefully, we can get a couple of wins in a row, and get some confidence back into the team.

“Otherwise, we are going to have the feeling we are playing well, but not getting any points.”

With the Saints now only three points off the drop zone, Romeu accepted they are in trouble. He added: “We don’t want to be in a relegation battle but, if we don’t win games, we will be. That’s the reality. We are doing everything to avoid that.

“Sometimes, against bigger teams, we are competing well but not getting points, and we have to do better.”
