Lingard in record call to pip City

- BY JOHN CROSS

JESSE LINGARD insists Manchester United will not give up on the title – but admits they will have to go on their own recordbreaking run. Manchester City are 11 points clear of bitter rivals United after setting a new Premier League record of 16 consecutive wins under Pep Guardiola. England midfielder Lingard claims United would be top in any normal season after getting 41 points from their opening 18 games. This is eight more than the same stage last year. When asked whether United will have to win all their remaining games, Lingard said: “Probably. With the squad we have got we have to always believe in each game. “Any other season we would be top with the points we have so as long as we keep winning games that’s the most important thing. We’re doing very well.”
