Minister praises Mirror over organ donations campaign
A MINISTER hailed the Daily Mirror in Parliament yesterday for our campaign to change the law on organ donations.
Jackie Doyle-Price praised how we took up the case of Max Johnson, nine, as he waited for a new heart.
The health minister said: “I thank the Daily Mirror for their very public displays and education that they did through their campaign with Max.” She revealed a Government-commissioned report into changing the UK system into one of presumed consent is predicted to lead to “higher donation rates”. An opt-out system will save hundreds of lives each year, Labour MP Dan Jarvis said. Consultation on the change started last week. The move, which follows the Mirror’s Change the Law for Life campaign, was described by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt as “historic”.
