Robocat... an AI companion for our OAPs
ROBOT cats for the elderly are being developed as companions to help them with tasks and reminders.
They will have realistic fur, make purring sounds and respond to hugs.
And they will help pensioners by, for example, picking up spectacles or announcing GP visits.
Toy firm Hasbro has won a £750,000 science grant to work with Brown University, Rhode Island, US, to create the artificial intelligence pets.
The US project is dubbed ARIES – Affordable Robotic Intelligence for Elderly Support.
Bertram Malle, of Brown University, said: “It might point towards the medication box that the person hadn’t thought of.”
It will build on Hasbro’s £90 Joy for All toy pets.
