Met sex case review as 2nd trial is halted
SCOTLAND Yard has launched a review of its sex crime investigations after the collapse of a second rape case amid issues with the disclosure of evidence.
Every live case where the Met is in discussion with the Crown Prosecution Service will be examined.
A prosecution against Isaac Itiary, charged with raping a child under 16, collapsed yesterday when police disclosed “relevant material” to the defence.
The CPS decided ”there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction”.
The trial of Liam Allan, 22, was halted last week when police finally disclosed evidence.
Commander Richard Smith said the Met was “completely committed” to understanding what had gone wrong.
