Luis Suarez added fuel to the fire this week by saying the France international and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho would be welcomed in Catalonia.

Griezmann flirted with United last summer, saying there was a “six out of 10” chance he would move to Old Trafford. But he agreed a new contract at Atletico until 2022 with an £88million buyout clause.

Barca then launched a concerted campaign to woo him – sparking Atletico’s complaint of “repeated contact between Barcelona, the player and his people” and making any deal with their La Liga rivals unlikely.
