U R DUMPED.. MOBILE USERS CAN SWAP NETWORK BY TEXT
No more hassle getting hold of PACs
MOBILE phone users will be able to ditch their providers by text in a shake-up of the rules.
Firms are going to have to send out PACs to anyone requesting them by SMS. At the moment users have to call to get the special codes, and sales staff usually try to harangue them into staying or delay the handover. The days of stumping up bills to both the old provider and the new while the changeover happens will also be over, as Ofcom rings the changes.
The watchdog’s Lindsey Fussell said: “Too many people are put off by the hassle of switching provider. Our changes will make it quicker and easier. Customers will control how much contact they have with their provider, preventing companies from delaying and frustrating the switching process.”
But the change will not come in until July 2019. Website uSwitch said: “Consumers shouldn’t wait that long.”
