Lotto winner: I’ll still work on Xmas Day

DEDICATED carer Patricia Aldridge will do a 12-hour shift on Christmas Day despite winning £1million with a Lotto Lucky Dip.

Mum-of-three Patricia, 55, who works in a care home for dementia patients, said: “I really don’t mind working Christmas because I love it.”

She added that Christmas at the home “is special” and insisted: “I could not drop out now.”

Patricia and husband Robert, 57, were presented with the cheque from the December 9 draw yesterday and are determined it will not impact on them too much. School site manager Robert, of Wexham, Bucks, said: “My boss asked if it would be OK to tell my colleagues. I said fine, so my boss said someone’s a millionaire. I gave it around 10 seconds before I stood up and said it was me and everyone went ballistic. “We don’t want to spend a penny until we can see the money in the bank.” Patricia, who said her workmates in Slough were also ecstatic at her good fortune, added: “We lost both my parents three months apart just before Christmas. “Then last year we all decided we’d make an effort again, only to lose my brother to heart failure on Christmas Eve. “I was beginning to think we were cursed for Christmas.”

CARE home grafter Patricia Aldridge putting in a 12-hour Christmas Day shift when she’s won £1million on the Lottery is the true spirit of the festive season.

Selfless Patricia is the type who, had she met a couple expecting a baby in Bethlehem many, many years ago, would have given her own room to them and slept in the stable herself.
