No wonder Hamilton’s popularity is flagging

SUNDAY’S Sports Personality Of The Year vote has been described as the most bizarre since Princess Anne beat George Best and Barry John in 1971.

It certainly was if you are a Lewis Hamilton fan, seeing your man become the greatest British driver in Formula One history yet finish sixth behind a motorbike rider, a paralympic sprinter, and a swimmer who are all barely known outside their sports.

However, seeing as they all pay their taxes here, it’s not that bizarre really. Maybe Hamilton should do what the winner Mo Farah is doing and relocate to Britain to give something back to the country whose flag he wraps around himself in victory.
