We’ll Tyke club to top
BARNSLEY’S new owners are targeting a return to the top flight.
And they believe it can happen without spending massive amounts of money.
It is 20 years since the Tykes graced the Premier League for the only time in their history.
But the consortium headed by Chinese billionaire Chien Lee reckon they have a chance of reaching English football’s top table again with only moderate investment.
Lee and his co-investors – including Billy Beane, who pioneered ‘Moneyball’ in baseball – have paid around £20million to buy an 80 per cent share in the club.
Paul Conway, who will be co-chairman with Lee at Oakwell, said: “Huddersfield got to the Premier League with a proper, but sensible business plan.
“They didn’t do anything crazy and our goal is to grow the same way.”
