GUSTARD’S RESCUE BID

- BY ALEX SPINK

ENGLAND defence coach Paul Gustard yesterday answered an SOS from Northampton as they bid to arrest a disastrous run of 10 defeats in 11 games.

Gustard took a training session after Saints – who sacked director of rugby Jim Mallinder this month – shipped 56 tries in 14 matches.

And skipper Dylan Hartley admits their losing run has been painful for all concerned.

“It’s not a nice thing to happen because there’s livelihoods and people’s families,” said the hooker, 31, (above).

“But this is professional sport and I understand why these things happen.”
