Digital Christmas Day Disc Boxing Day With more than a dash of Hammer House of Horror blood splashed about, this gothic murder mystery resembles the case of Jack the Ripper as if it were being investigated by an ageing Sherlock Holmes.

Bill Nighy is well cast as a police inspector plodding through the fog of Victorian London in the downmarket Limehouse district. Much of the action centres on a musical hall rich with period costumes and interior design. It allows for many entertaining turns, not least from a flamboyant Douglas Booth and an incandescent Olivia Cooke who lights up the gloomy atmosphere.
