Police pull in crime suspects with fake hamper win

BAIT The fake hamper prize SUSPECTED criminals have been arrested after police lured them with a Christmas hamper sting.

Police sent cards telling people they wanted to arrest that they had won hampers and needed to book a delivery slot. But instead of opening their doors to couriers, the suspects found officers and were arrested.

South Yorkshire Police said 21 people were held over two days.

Det Chief Insp Lee Berry said: “Some were wanted in relation to serious charges, including supplying an illegal article into prison, dangerous driving, drink driving, assault and fraud.

“It’s encouragin­g our approach has yielded positive results. We will continue to explore new avenues for apprehendi­ng those wanted.

“If you commit crime we will come for you at any time, any place and in any guise.”
