WAYNE ROONEY has handed over three cheques worth £250,000 each in a generous Christmas gesture.

Everton striker Rooney presented the cheques to Claire House, Alder Hey and the NSPCC after fund-raising by his own foundation.

It shows the generous side of football and also the softer side of Rooney. The 32-year-old was touched by tragedy when his wife Coleen’s sister Rosie died in 2013, aged just 14, from a rare brain condition.
