SWANS STILL A TASTY OPTION, SAYS BRITTON

- BY ALEX BYWATER

LEON BRITTON insists rockbottom Swansea remain an attractive proposition.

Club legend Britton is in caretaker charge at the Liberty Stadium following the sacking of Paul Clement, and leads the Swans for the second time at Liverpool today.

The Welsh club hope to appoint a new manager after the game at Anfield with Frank De Boer and former boss Garry Monk – who was sacked by Middlesbrough last week – the favourites.

Swansea drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace in Britton’s first game, and he said: “I think that game showed we have desire, even though we are where we are.

“If any potential managers were watching, they will have seen the players are still fighting and giving everything we’ve got.

“This club is a great opportunity for someone out there. If we can get things right on the pitch, this is a very, very good club. The Palace performance was encouraging for everyone.”

Swansea are four points from safety, but did win 3-2 at Anfield last season.

Britton has injury worries in midfield with Ki Sungyueng and Leroy Fer struggling. Roque Mesa is also a doubt after suffering a knock against Palace.

Wilfried Bony is still out with a hamstring problem. Britton (above) insists he doesn’t want the Swansea job permanently, whatever happens. “We have a few injuries, which has come at the wrong time with so many games in quick succession,” he said.

“My thoughts on the job full time will remain the same, even if we win the next two or three games.

“I’m here to help in the short term, how long that is I’m not sure. The main thing is the club gets the right person in the next few days or next few weeks.”

Forward Jordan Ayew, who scored a stunning 25-yard equaliser against Palace, said: “We will go to Liverpool, do our best, and try to take maximum points.

“It’s not a good feeling to be bottom, but it’s not over and we will fight to the end.

“We won’t be giving up and our target is to get out of this situation as quickly as possible.”
