Maya: My Saints need to pick up Maur wins

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

MAYA YOSHIDA admits he has not known a run as bad as the one Southampton are on ahead of today’s clash with Tottenham.

The Saints have lost three and drawn three of their last six matches and will not have it easy against former boss Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side at Wembley.

Defender Yoshida (right) said: “It’s a really difficult moment, not only for the players but for the club.

“I didn’t have this in the last five years — it’s the most difficult situation in this club recently.”

Saints team-mate James Ward-Prowse added: “The mood is lower. Every team goes through a tough period in the season but we have to stick together, keep believing in each other and in what we’re doing and I’m sure it will change.

“We just need that little bit of luck right now.

“Against Spurs we know it will obviously be a high-energy game. They play a good, attacking style of football.

“Having played under their manager you know what you’re going to get so I am very excited and it’s a good chance to put things right for us.”

Saints manager Mauricio Pellegrino said: “Hopefully, going to Wembley will lift our players.

“It is a monument of football and a very nice opportunity for us.”
