BYWATER GETS CANED AFTER O’KANE GRAB

- BY NICK LUCY MOTM PABLO HERNANDEZ (LEEDS UNITED)

STEPHEN BYWATER was left red-faced as Leeds produced a storming second-half fightback.

The Burton keeper was booked for pulling down Eunan O’Kane’s shorts (above) in the lead-up to Pablo Hernandez firing home Leeds’ free-kick equaliser.

Bywater was beaten again three minutes later when Kemar Roofe grabbed his 10th goal of the season from Ronaldo Vieira’s through ball to complete a dramatic turnaround and condemn Burton to an eighth successive home defeat.

Nigel Clough’s side looked on course to end that dismal run when Tom Naylor bundled home Lucas Akins’ innocuous cross, but Bywater’s madcap moment contributed to their downfall.

Clough admitted: “I’ve said to Stephen that he should concentrate on his wall and the free-kick, rather than getting involved with opponents.

“But we must also stop these silly errors in giving away freekicks. Until we stop doing that, we’ll keep losing matches.”

Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen said: “The free-kick was very well executed by Pablo and everyone did their job with that one. Of course we did not want their goalkeeper to see the ball. There was nothing wrong with that.”

He must have feared it was not going to be his side’s day when they squandered early chances.

And the Brewers could even have stretched their lead early in the second half through Marvin Sordell’s shot.

But Leeds turned the game on its head to leave Burton hovering just above the drop zone.
