Keep healthy while at work

-

Most of us gain a few pounds after the overindulgence of the festive season.

But for almost a third of the nation’s workforce, it doesn’t stop at Christmas – their job makes them put on weight all year round.

A study from CV-Library reveals that 29.1% say their job has led them to gain weight. Three-quarters say this has left them feeling unhappy.

The top reason workers say they have gained a few pounds is because they are not active and sit at their desk all day. Others say they work such long hours they don’t have time to exercise.

Snacking at work is also blamed, along with eating more due to stress, and colleagues bringing in unhealthy snacks to share.

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, said: “Living a healthy lifestyle can sometimes feel like a job itself, so it’s unsurprising to see that work has an impact on the eating and exercise habits of many professionals.

“Weight gain at work is understandable, particularly if you sit at a desk all day.”

Many of us will spend more time at work than with our families, so it’s important that we try to look after our health and wellbeing while there.

Instead of continuing to sit at your desk during breaks and checking Facebook or Instagram, get up and go for a brisk walk. It will help clear your mind and make you feel less sluggish.

Try to avoid eating meals at your desk – move to another area so you get a break from work.

Eat fruit and healthy snacks – you’ll feel much happier than the slump after sugary treats.
