Cloud lifts as Terriers’ Ince finds bite at last

-

TOM INCE is relieved to finally get off the mark for Huddersfield, admitting his goal drought was weighing on his mind.

Ince broke his duck in the 1-1 draw with Stoke on his 21st appearance for Town.

The former England Under-21 midfielder had previously failed to score despite 44 attempts on goal this season.

“It was that looming cloud over me and now that’s gone, I have to carry on focusing on trying to perform and helping the team pick up points,” he said.

“I never lost my belief in my ability to score goals, I always know I can.

“Now it’s all about using that confidence and that goal to kick on, really perform to try to score more for this team.”

Ince (above) scored 15 times last season in the Championship with Derby.

His only other top-flight goal came while on loan at Crystal Palace under Tony Pulis in February 2014.

“I was relieved to score because it’s been a long time coming for me,” said Ince of his goal against the Potters. “I managed to put the graft and the work in, but the ball just didn’t hit the net for me. I felt if I miss this then I’m never going to score, but luckily it went in.”
