Heroes who run towards danger
As the Queen reminded us on Christmas Day, there was a lot of tragedy in 2017.
The terrorist attacks in Manchester and London.
The horrific fire at Grenfell Tower.
And further afield, too much pain and death caused by needless conflict.
On every occasion, heroic acts by health professionals, police and the emergency services prevented further suffering.
They urged others to run from danger, while running towards it themselves.
Those heroes stay on duty over Christmas without a thought.
Our thoughts should be with them – and our heartfelt thanks.
They are the glue that helps hold our communities together.
