This new version of Stephen’s King famous horror story saw its killer clown scare up a frighteningly impressive half a billion pounds from only a £35m budget.

And it’s easy to see why. This superb supernatural coming of age tale has first rate performances from the young cast, an excellent ear for dialogue, strong characterisation and it looks fabulous.

Yet I didn’t find Pennywise, a psychopathic spirit in the form of a freakshow circus clown who terrorises them, particularly frightening. I’m hoping for greater scares when the sequel arrives in September 2019.
