Fines blitz on lanes abuse
PEOPLE who ignore lane closures on smart motorways could face fines in a blitz on dangerous driving.
New legislation is on the way and the Home Office is trialling cameras that may be in use by March.
Ignoring red X alerts on gantries could be treated like jumping a red light, which carries a £100 fixed penalty and three points.
Highways England said: “Lanes close for a reason.”
The RAC wants more communication on what the X alert means.
