Peer: I was measured from top to toe by Lloyd George
TORY Baroness Trumpington has revealed how, as a teenager, she was pestered by David Lloyd George.
The 95-year-old peer said the incident happened when she was 17 and was sent to work as a Land Girl on the former Prime Minister’s farm.
He surveyed “pretty well all” of her body with a tape measure.
She told Radio 4’s Today: “He’d say, ‘Go and stand over there’. He had a tape measure and he would measure me.” She agreed the encounters were “rather intimate”, but said: “I thought that’s what people do.” Lady Trumpington, later a Bletchley Park codebreaker, said a PM would be “booted” out of office for such behaviour nowadays. She also told how Lloyd George used to hide his mistress, his secretary Frances Stevenson, in a cottage on the estate in Churt, Surrey.
