Think we got a bit carried away

- BY AMY-CLARE MARTIN

SOME revellers clearly needed a bit of help stepping into 2018 after soaking up too much New Year spirit.

Thousands across the country looked the worse for wear after midnight.

And the booze-fuelled festivities piled pressure on emergency services on the busiest night of the year. The London Ambulance Service had 337 calls in the first hour of 2018. Deputy director of operations Pauline Cranmer said later: “We’ve been taking up to 400 calls an hour, when we normally get around 250.”

Other drinkers spent New Year’s Day behind different bars. Greater Manchester Police arrested 15 who “couldn’t behave” and officers in Nottingham broke up brawls.
