AYEW AMBITION WAT A TIME TO END OUR JINX

-

SWANSEA hope the comeback win at Watford can give them the confidence to finally end their Tottenham hoodoo.

Spurs arrive at the Liberty Stadium tonight as the only team Swansea have never beaten in the Premier League.

The Welsh outfit start 2018 bottom of the pile, but buoyed by Saturday’s 2-1 success at Vicarage Road in their first game under Carlos Carvalhal (below).

“The win at Watford was a step forward and now we have to keep going and keep fighting. Football is all about confidence,” said Swansea forward Jordan Ayew.

“We showed that at Watford. When you have confidence you can do better things. We worked very hard and we were rewarded. We only had two days training under Carlos, but he told us we had to run more and be more aggressive. Those were the key things.

“Tottenham is a big game and we have nothing to lose. We need to keep on running and keep playing the Swansea way.”

Swansea drew 0-0 with Tottenham at Wembley earlier this season, despite Mauricio Pochettino’s men having 75 per cent possession and 26 shots on goal.

Former Spurs defender Kyle Naughton will miss the reverse fixture today after being given a three-match ban for stamping on Watford striker Stefano Okaka. Angel Rangel will step in at right-back for Swansea while Oli McBurnie is pushing for a start up front after a man-of-thematch display as a substitute at Watford. “We have to push on and take the belief from Watford into the Tottenham game,” said McBurnie.

“It will be a very tough game, but it’s a challenge we can look forward to in front of our home fans.

“Confidence is a big factor for us and we have to use Watford as a platform and build on it and continue to go from strength to strength.”
