FOUR men were stabbed to death and three suffered critical wounds in separate New Year attacks.

Police are probing the four unrelated murders in London – three on New Year’s Eve and one in the early hours of New Year’s Day. A man in his 20s was in a critical condition after being stabbed in the later incident.

And two more men were critical after five people suffered stab and slash wounds at a Great Gatsby-themed New Year’s Eve bash in Sheffield.

The first horror in the capital came at 11.30am on New Year’s Eve as an 18-yearold was stabbed in Enfield, North London, and died in hospital that evening. In the second, a man of 20 was fatally knifed in West Ham, East London, at 7.35pm. Then at 10.40pm, a 17-year-old was stabbed to death in Tulse Hill, in the south of the city.

And at 2.35am on New Year’s Day, a 20-year-old was killed in Old Street, Central London.

Five males have been held in connection with the murder in Enfield but no arrests have been made over the other killings.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “Everything is being done to bring to justice those responsible. The police were out in force helping people enjoy celebrations. It is horrific that knife crime has claimed another four young lives as the New Year begins.”

Commander Neil Jerome of the Met added: “It is heartbreaking that, at a time when so many of us are contemplating what lies ahead in 2018, four families are dealing with the grief of losing a loved one to senseless violence and the callous use of knives as lethal weapons.”

The killings of the two teenagers took the number of teens murdered in London in 2017 to 26. The toll, which includes 20 stabbings, is the highest in a decade. Twelve were stabbed to death in the capital in 2016.

Meanwhile, police were called to the Crystal Bar in Sheffield at 2.20am yesterday after a bust-up. Two men remain in hospital in a critical but stable condition and three others had superficial injuries. No arrests have been made.

And a man was also stabbed in the stomach after rowing with youths in Anfield, Liverpool, on New Year’s Eve.

He needed hospital treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

A woman of 20 was stabbed in the face by another female while celebrating New Year in London’s Soho. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

WHAT a bloody start to 2018 when four men are stabbed to death and three others injured in a New Year frenzy.

The police and courts must use their powers to search and jail criminals found carrying knives – or more families will be mourning lost loved ones.
