Liverpool defender kicked girlfriend in assault
LIVERPOOL defender Jon Flanagan has admitted assaulting his girlfriend.
The player was captured on CCTV kicking Rachael Wall during a prolonged attack at 3.20am in Liverpool city centre, a court heard. District Judge Wendy Lloyd asked for probation reports ahead of Flanagan’s sentencing at Liverpool magistrates court on January 17.
She said: “I need to be reassured that these circumstances will never be repeated again.” She warned Flanagan, 25, who was released on unconditional bail, that he would face a community penalty.
Lionel Greig, defending, said there had been no previous incidents of domestic violence in the relationship and both parties had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the assault on December 22. Flanagan has made more than 50 first-team appearances for Liverpool since his debut at 18. He spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Burnley.
