DEATH IN PARADISE
BBC1, 9pm It’s January, it’s cold, dark and grim, and we’re all dieting and off the drink. So praise be to the Beeb for bringing us sunshine and silliness with the delightful escapism that is this popular cop show set in the Caribbean.
The officer running things in Saint Marie now is DI Jack Mooney, played by Father Ted’s Ardal O’Hanlon. He first came to the island at the end of series six, but now Kris Marshall’s Humphrey Goodman has officially gone, Jack’s in charge. Ably (or otherwise) assisted by Florence, Dwayne and JP.
Their first case is connected to a wedding, when the fiancée of hotel billionaire Philip Marston (played by New Tricks’ Denis Lawson) is found dead the day before the nuptials.
It looks like suicide but Jack isn’t convinced and reckons he may have been killed by a family member with something to lose.
