Jail let-off for cemetery car killer age 95
A FEMALE driver aged 95 who killed a worker in a cemetery has avoided jail.
Gertrude Lister hit the wrong pedal after visiting her husband’s grave and crashed into married dad of two Paul Mills, 47.
In a letter to his family she said: “Not a day goes by when I don’t think about what happened and how hard it must be for you.
“I shamefully ask for your forgiveness. It hurts me every day.”
Lister, from Bray, Berks, admitted death by dangerous driving at Reading crown court and was given 16 months jail, suspended due to “exceptional circumstances”.
Judge Paul Dugdale said an accidental error caused “terrible consequences” and banned her from the roads for the rest of her life.
