PM’s dinner guest tycoons lavished millions on Tories
MORE than a third of donations to the Tory party last year came from a tiny group of super-rich men who enjoy lavish dinners with Theresa May.
Labour analysed donations by 64 people, 62 of them men, who attended “Leader’s Group” dinners in the first half of last year. The Party received £12.9million from them or their firms in 2017. Almost half those attending the diners were from the world of finance. JCB billionaire Lord Bamford and his family, prominent donors to Vote Leave, topped the list by giving £2.5million personally and via their firms. News of the donations comes despite Mrs May’s 2007 vow “to remove the dependency of political parties on all large donors”. A party spokesman said: “All donations comply fully with the law.”
