Mum’s courtroom hug for woman who killed her son

THE grieving mum of a four-year-old run over and killed when he ran into the road hugged the woman who was driving in a tearful courtroom scene.

Driver Naza Ali told the parents of Yusuf Jatta: “I am really sorry.”

The dead boy’s father Lamin, 48, told a distraught Mrs Ali: “We forgive you and don’t hold a grudge against you or your family.”

A coroner heard Yusuf stepped into the road while waiting at a pelican crossing with his mother near their home in Chapeltown, Leeds. CCTV showed Bradford mum-of-four Mrs Ali was doing 27mph in a 30mph zone and had only one second to react. Yusuf ’s mother Fatou Bojang, 48, wrote in a statement to the Wakefield inquest: “He was a lovely son and loving brother.” Coroner David Hinchlif f recorded a verdict that Yusuf died in a road traffic collision.
