AMERICAN ASSASSIN
Cert 18
Digital Monday, disc January 22 Even globe-trotting action and a pretty boy lead can’t lift this anonymous espionage thriller.
Dylan O’Brien is functional as the broken-hearted vigilante Mitch Rapp, who’s recruited as an undercover agent by the CIA. He has no respect for authority, red tape or public property as he chases a vanload of weapons-grade plutonium around some lovely European locations.
There’s an absence of humour and the violence is eventually abandoned for nonsensical waves of CGI destruction.
The late Vince Flynn wrote 13 novels based on the Rapp character but after this, I hope – I mean I doubt – we’ll see any more.
