Triple wife-killer ‘played the system’
A SERIAL wife-killer “played the system” and was freed to murder his third victim. Theodore Johnson, 64, bludgeoned Angela Best after she ended the relationship. He had already served less than seven years for pushing his first wife off a balcony in 1981 and strangling his second in 1993. He was released from a secure hospital in 1997 on condition he inform the authorities of any new relationship.
Yesterday, as the garage worker was jailed for at least 26 years, the system was condemned as flawed as it allowed Johnson to hide the relationship despite regular official visits to his North London home.
Ms Best’s sister Lorraine Jones said outside the Old Bailey: “This convicted murderer tried to play the system as he has successfully done twice before.”
