Sorry Hunt is full of empty words

-

The Prime Minister is in complete denial when she claims the NHS is not in crisis. Tell that to the thousands of people suffering in pain and waiting months for operations, only to find them cancelled or postponed indefinitely.

Do we need any more proof that this Government is preparing our beloved NHS for privatisation?

Jeremy Hunt’s apology was pathetic, from a man who is supposedly responsible for the running of the service. In any other job he would have been sacked a long time ago.

A massive thank you to the dedicated staff who continue to fight to keep the NHS alive, but how much longer will they be able to do this? Vince McAllister, Ely, Cambs The Government’s claim that they have been caught unaware by the winter crisis in the NHS beggars belief. Although there is room for greater efficiency in the NHS, the fact is it has been starved of money since the Tories returned to office in 2010. Isn’t the reason for our crisis blindingly obvious – and isn’t it about time something was done? Derek F Richards Southampton Theresa May and Jeremy Hunt’s apology to the people who will miss out on their operations just isn’t enough. It’s empty words. They are running down the NHS to create an unworkable backlog so they can involve the private sector to ease it. And I’m sure the patients who are in pain won’t mind who performs their operation, just so long as it’s done. Brian Scully, Wigan By stating that the NHS is not in crisis, Theresa May has, yet again, demonstrated that she is totally out of touch with real life. It is in crisis, due to the vicious cuts imposed upon it by this Government. Hunt’s apology means nothing – doing something about it is what’s needed.

Most Tories have private healthcare, but they should remember that if they’re in a serious accident or terrorist attack, it won’t be a private ambulance racing to the scene. Let’s hope there would be enough ambulances and staff left to treat them. Sheila Fox, Crawley, West Sussex Theresa May and Jeremy Hunt may well think an apology is enough regarding the dire state of our beloved NHS, but it’s not.

They are responsible for this diabolical situation. They glibly talk of their admiration for staff who are under horrendous pressure on a daily basis, but do nothing to change it.

It’s time for all opposition parties to stand up for the ordinary people and for our country, which the Tories are turning into one big joke, both here and abroad. Pauline Dupere, Barnsley South Yorks So, Jeremy Hunt has apologised for having to cancel thousands of operations. It doesn’t wash. What we need from Mr Hunt and his cohorts is action. His excuses and apologies have been compounded by Theresa May saying that she knows many people will be “disappointed”. No, Mrs May, we are not disappointed, we are downright angry! Kenneth Lounds, Welwyn Garden City, Hert What a lovely story about widowed cabbie Amo Riselli winning the £24million Lotto jackpot (Mirror, January 4). Amo lost his partner, Donna, suddenly in 2013. Now he can enjoy his winnings with his five beautiful daughters. Sheila Monaghan East London Wind or a bit of snow and this country is in a state of no-go. “Stay indoors and hunker down” is the advice from ministerial clowns. But if we did, who would earn the money to make those at the top rich and fat? M Smith, Tilbury, Essex
