Chicago in a deep freeze.. as Oz sizzles
THE Windy City looks more like the Icy City as its river freezes over.
Chicago, in Illinois, was among the victims of the worst arctic winds in 80 years as temperatures in parts of North America approached -50C.
The chill follows the winter storm dubbed a “bomb cyclone”, blamed for 22 deaths in the US and Canada.
In Europe, 4,000 drivers spent a night on a motorway in Spain after being trapped by a snowstorm. But England’s batsmen and fans flagged at the hottest Test Match on record as Sydney, Australia, baked at 47.3C.
Britain faces further sub-zero temperatures until Wednesday.
