Fatal smash drug-driver gets 5 years
A DRUG-driver who killed a pensioner couple had ignored a letter from the DVLA revoking his licence.
Newly qualified Jamie Myers, 25, had racked up six penalty points – but police found the envelope unopened in his car.
He was jailed for five years after Bournemouth crown court heard his Ford Escort hit a motorbike ridden by Sid Samways, 74, with wife Barbara, 71, as pillion passenger.
He had swung out into the bike after tailgating a car on April 2 near Shaftesbury, Dorset.
Myers, of Donhead St Mary, admitted causing death by careless driving.
Judge Peter Johnson said a “large quantity” of cocaine in his system would have contributed to poor decision making.
