Rub your eye to get a piece of grit out
The false reasoning behind this is that tears caused by rubbing will wash out the grit – but rubbing your eyes could cause damage such as scratches or abrasions. What you should do instead is to try to rinse it with clean running water. If this doesn’t work, you should cover your eye with a loose bandage and go to A&E.
