WENGER OUT ...OF THE FA CUP AT LEAST
Arsene fury as brilliant Forest humble holders: We got what we deserved... NOTHING
ARSENE WENGER tore into his team after his worst FA Cup defeat as Arsenal manager.
The trophy holders were dumped out by Nottingham Forest, Wenger losing in the third round for the first time in his 21-year reign.
And the Gunners boss admitted they were second best in every department.
“We weren’t good enough anywhere, not at the front, not in the middle, at the
back and we paid for it,” he said. “They looked sharper, they had more chances.
“Nottingham Forest were outstanding, you couldn’t fault any individual performance by them.
“We won the FA Cup three times in the last four years and will not win every year, but it hurts very much to go out in the third round.
“During the game we repeated the same mistakes, and that’s where we are guilty today, once, twice, three times.”
Eric Lichaj opened the scoring with a header against a much-changed Arsenal line-up. Per Mertesacker quickly had the visitors level, but Lichaj struck again to send Forest in 2-1 up at half-time.
Ben Brereton extended their lead with a penalty, and although Danny Welbeck (left) replied for the Gunners, Kieran Dowell sealed victory with another spot kick.
