Exercise can reverse heart risk in 2 years
WALKING, swimming and running could help middle-aged couch potatoes reverse their risk of heart failure, a study says.
Just two years with the “right dose” of exercise could reverse decades of damage from a sedentary lifestyle, researchers found.
The regime includes at least one long weekly session of exercise such as tennis, cycling, running or brisk walking, one highintensity aerobic workout, two or three sessions of moderate exercise and at least one of strength training each week.
Lead author Dr Benjamin Levine, of the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine in Texas, said: “The ‘sweet spot’ in life to get off the couch and start exercising is in late-middle age.”
