Dairy allergy student died after burger
A MATHS student with a dairy allergy suffered a fatal reaction after eating a chicken burger marinated in buttermilk.
Manchester University undergraduate Shahida Shahid, 18, collapsed within an hour of leaving the city’s Almost Famous American diner in January 2015. She died in hospital.
Her GP sister, Dr Sharmin Shahid, 33, told the Manchester inquest Shahida, from Worsley, had an allergy to milk from an early age.
She said: “Mostly when out she’d stick to things she knew she could eat.”
Coroner Sally Hatfield told the jury: “The issues are primarily how it was she came to have the burger marinaded in buttermilk.”
