Cath pays tribute to hero Kirk
HOLLYWOOD veteran Kirk Douglas was given a standing ovation when he was accompanied on stage by his daughterin-law, Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The 101-year-old actor and his son Michael’s wife presented the award for best screenplay for a motion picture.
Zeta-Jones, 48, began her presentation by honouring “living Hollywood legend” Kirk.
She said: “In 1991 my father-in-law, this living Hollywood legend Kirk, was recognised by the Writer’s Guild Of America for his role in ending the Hollywood Blacklist.”
She reminded the audience how Douglas hired Dalton Trumbo to write Spartacus, despite his being blacklisted for alleged communist ties.
