SCHOOL FOR STAMMERERS ITV, 9pm
IF you’ve been feeling like the world is a pretty grim place right now, and there’s very little goodness or positivity to inspire you, this documentary is the perfect choice.
Remember back in 2013 when we were all gripped by Educating Yorkshire as Dewsbury teenager Mushy overcame his stammer to deliver a speech to the rest of the school? It was voted the best TV moment of the year. Well, prepare to sob and get covered in goose bumps all over again.
This new programme follows the stories of six people who have enrolled in a remarkable course to try to counteract the stutters currently controlling their lives.
Lorry driver Tony, wedding photographer Jessica, pharmacist Mueid, student teacher Emily and teenage schoolboys Ryan and James all have debilitating stutters which have held them back in life.
But now they have signed up for The McGuire Programme – an intensive residential course run by former stammerers – which aims to help them control the way they speak and change their lives for good.
For four days, the students are put through a gruelling regimen of speech therapy, each supported by their own coach.
Talking on the phone or asking a stranger for directions might not sound too hard a task to you, but if you struggle beyond belief to even say your own name, then it can be terrifying and daunting.
Be prepared to watch this through tears as we see the incredible transformations each of the six goes through.
