Acting and writing duo Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton can do no wrong. The first episode of this fourth series was hailed as “sublime” and “triumphant” as praise on Twitter rocketed.
So this second episode arrives with a side order of great anticipation and enormous pressure. But relax, this is just as good as the first.
The pair play Northern comedy double-act Len (Pemberton) and Tommy (Shearsmith), who haven’t appeared together for 30 years, after a fateful night at the Glasgow Pavilion when Tommy walked out on Len, meaning it was curtains for Cheese & Crackers.
Until now – and one last gig in front of an invited audience.
But Tommy now lives in France where he’s the boss of a digital marketing company with a liking for peppermint tea. He also seems to have lost his sense of humour.
As always, this clever tragicomedy is full of surprises.
