Six out of 10 pensioners who own their home don’t realise they could get vital financial help.

Research from Just Group shows people could be struggling with their finances needlessly as they are missing out on pension credits worth an average £1,013 a year. One in three eligible is losing an average £3,431 a year.

Meanwhile, many of those claiming benefits are not receiving their full entitlement.

Stephen Lowe, of Just Group, said: “The figures make it clear that in a complex system people are struggling to get to grips with what state benefits they are entitled to.”

The benefits system means that pensioners have to claim help they’re entitled to, rather than receiving it automatically.
