Tesco’s cake box mix-up is a nut hazard
TESCO is at the centre of a health scare after cakes were sold in the wrong packaging, posing a potentially fatal danger to anyone with a nut allergy.
Thousands of Finest Chocolate Cakes, with a best before date of January 17, have been cleared from shelves after carrot cake was packed in some boxes.
The carrot cake contains walnuts, but the packs have no warning and those with a bad allergy could be at risk by opening the box.
The Food Standards Agency said: “If you have bought the product and have an allergy to nuts, do not eat it. Return it to the store for a full refund.”
Tesco said a “manufacturing error” meant a “small number of boxes” had been wrongly packed.
