A POLICEMAN who lied about his whereabouts after he went missing to eat a kebab in his patrol car has been fired.

PC Richard Musgrave told bosses at the station he had driven to an industrial estate to write up a statement before falling asleep.

But Sergeant Rob Savill questioned the 52-year-old’s version of events and he finally admitted he had in fact taken his wife Linda, 59, home and grabbed a snack.

Sgt Savill told a disciplinary hearing he and colleagues had become worried about Musgrave after he vanished from the station at March, Cambs, in the early hours of July 31, 2016. He said: “There was enough concern that something may have happened to make sure he was OK.” Musgrave, of March, told the panel he lied about taking his wife home as he was “embarrassed”. He was sacked after being found guilty of gross misconduct at the hearing in Peterborough.
