SOLO travellers shell out more but get a poorer service, experts claim.

They can be hit with a single-person supplement for accommodat­ion which can add 50%, plus nearly 20% extra on travel insurance, travel guide Lonely Planet says.

Other criticisms were poor service from restaurant staff and being given the worst places to sit.

Research shows solo travel has changed greatly, with over-65s now the most likely to go alone.
