Carphone fined £400k for hack
Carphone Warehouse was yesterday fined £400,000 for a cyber attack where details of three million customers were accessed in 2015.
The penalty is one of the largest imposed by the Information Commissioner’s Office which said failings by Carphone allowed unauthorised access to names, addresses and phone numbers of customers and 1,000 employees.
Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said: “It is concerning that the systemic failures we found related to rudimentary, commonplace measures.”
Carphone said: “The ICO noted that there was no evidence of any individual data having been used by third parties.”
