Oh my word!

WENGER GETS IT WRITE ON THE NIGHT

- BY DARREN LEWIS

ARSENE WENGER watched from the press box as his under-pressure side passed a big test at Stamford Bridge.

Against a full-strength Chelsea team, Arsenal – with Alexis Sanchez on the bench and Jack Wilshere limping off injured – frustrated the Blues and took a big step towards the Wembley final.

The Gunners boss, serving a threematch touchline suspension, was surrounded by journalists who had little

to write home about as a game of few chances ended in a bore draw. Arsenal survived a late scare, when the video referee was called into action to decide on a Chelsea penalty claim, before ruling that Danny Welbeck had won the ball.

Antonio Conte’s men blew two good chances in the second half, first from Andreas Christensen’s header, then a Victor Moses shot, while Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette wasted a glorious first-half opportunity.

The Gunners suffered a blow midway through the second half when Wilshere was forced off through injury.
