Boss on death charge after tragedy of tot in ‘killer bed’
THE boss of a company which made specialist children’s beds has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a baby boy.
Police and trading standards began a probe into PlayTime Beds after the seven-month-old died at his home in November 2016.
They warned parents to stop using the beds, stating they could strangle or crush tots. Craig Williams, 37, of Rotherham, South Yorks, has been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence and false representation.
Joseph Bruce, 30, also of Rotherham, is alleged to have set up Magical Dream Beds to sell at least one PlayTime bed after the original firm applied to cease trading following the death.
He has been accused of fraud by false representation.
Both men will appear before magistrates in York.
